Today, Ms. Cottrell's first grade class had a lesson all about Making Your Mark! She said, "Today my First Graders listened to The Dot book. We talked about different things they could do to leave a positive mark in our classroom and school. They were able to then paint their own dots." Great job, first graders!!!

Mrs. Halbrook's 1st grade students are busy working on their writing! We love seeing the look of determination as they learn this important life skill! Great job, 1st graders!!!

I can help with: Food insecurity Hygienic needs Finding healthcare Obtaining insurance & so much more! Homelessness: I ensure students who qualify under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act receive proper services. Here's a quick reminder: Families, please complete online registration for your students BEFORE the first day of school, next Tuesday, August 20th! While you're there, please complete the Online Meal Benefits application! We will process applications within 10 days of receiving them, and any meals that are charged prior to application processing will be the households' responsibility, so the sooner you get those apps in the better! The Class of 2028 attended Freshmen Orientation was on Tuesday! They talked with upperclassmen about some of the clubs and activities the HS has to offer, they did a scavenger hunt with our Student Council officers, and talked with Mr Gibson, Mrs. Helms, and Ms. Sherrill about all things High School. The Kindergarten Open House was full of excitement and imagination! Our new Kindergarteners scavenged throughout the entire school building, searching for their classroom character. Our 5th grade adventure has begun! We loved getting to see our new middle school students and introducing them during orientation to our building, staff, procedures, learning and of course, all the fun they are going to have as they start this leg of their educational journey! It's been a very informative day for our staff! Today is the first day all our staff was present, and we celebrated the occasion with a breakfast provided by our kitchen staff, LOTS of trainings from some of our district leaders, lunch at Bass' River Resort, and finally, each building talked about their goals for this school year. It was so good to see all of the smiling faces, and we are extra excited to welcome our students back for the new year! It's going to be the best one yet!

Attention Cardinals! Completing the Meal Benefits application helps our district in many areas beyond just free/reduced meal prices. With completed applications, our district receives increased state and federal funding: Funding for teachers, technology, additional grant opportunities, scholarships for students, etc. To encourage households to complete the application, the district is hosting a gift card drawing! All households that complete the application will be entered to win! Applications must be submitted by 9/30/2024 to qualify for the drawing. Households can complete the Meal Benefits application in their Parent Portal, which we will link below. To access the Meal Benefits application, you will login to the Parent Portal, click "More" on the left side of your screen, select "Meal Benefits", then click the blue "Meal Benefits Application" button to proceed. Once you've submitted your form, it will be processed within 10 business days! Please contact Kari Vetter at Central Office with any questions! Attention incoming SHS Freshmen: Freshman Orientation is coming up on Tuesday, August 13th from 5:30 PM to 7 PM! Incoming Freshmen will meet their teachers and learn about the upcoming year, find their lockers, participate in a fun student council activity, pick up their schedules, and enjoy a meal of pizza and soda! Parents do not need to attend Freshman Orientation.
