Did you know that clay is infinitely recyclable until it’s been fired? SHS Ceramics & Sculpture students could walk you through the steps! They have been developing their hand building skills by creating pinch pots, and each day they take turns with clay-recycling duty. We are wishing we would have documented the pinch pot “flops,” because the growth between attempts has been incredible!
This afternoon, our SMS and SHS Cross Country teams kick of their season with the Vienna Cross Country Meet! The meet will begin at 4PM in Vienna! Good luck, Cardinals!!!

Hey, Cardinals! Check out the events happening in Steelville this week!
These SES students had so much fun interacting with rodeo clown Whistle-Nut and his trusty bull Ole today! They look forward to this every year! Yeehaw, cowboys and cowgirls!
Starting Tuesday, September 10th, students will be collecting items to donate to the Friday Backpack Program. The Backpack Program helps provide supplemental nutrition to students when school is not in session. The class who collects the most donations by Friday, September 20th will win a party! Please contact your child's teacher or Mrs. Miller with any questions.
This is district-wide!
Mrs. Setzer's class and Ms. Harmon's class are the cutest little cowboys and cowgirls around! It looks like they're ready for tonight's rodeo!
Mrs. Beel’s Poms team helped pack all the Friday food bags for the Friday Backpack Program this week! Thanks, Poms!
Some fun from inside Mrs. Santhuff's class at SHS!
3rd hour Nutrition & Wellness students made omelettes in a mug yesterday in connection with their study of understanding the influence of time, energy, and budget on our food choices. Most gave their omelettes a "thumbs up"!
Tomorrow, Friday, September 6th, the Steelville R-III School District will be having a "drill day." During this time, we will be practicing all of our drills-severe weather, fire, earthquake, and intruder. For our intruder drill, we do have plans in place with staff for lock down, evacuation, counter, etc., following our ALICE training, but at this time we will only practice the lockdown portion with our students during that drill.
We have updated technology through an app on our phones that allows us to get word about emergencies, check-in students, and know when it is safe to release students back to class. We will be practicing with this as well tomorrow. I wanted to let you know about all aspects of our drills in case your child comes home and talks about them. Please contact your student's building office if you have any questions.
Mrs. Halbrook's first graders are conquering nouns in a Kahoot! battle! We love to see these little learners having fun while utilizing one of our new Smartboards!!!
We shared these pictures in our Harvest Festival post, but we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge our SHS art club, led by Miss Pitts! Miss Pitts said, "Art Club had so much fun painting faces during Family Fun Night! We appreciate everyone who stopped by and supported us. Several of our students stepped out of their comfort zones to engage with the community, as for many of them it was their first time painting faces. Everyone had a great time, and we're all looking forward to doing more fundraisers like this in the future. We're also grateful to the elementary specials team for helping us out. We hope everyone has an amazing Harvest Festival!"
We love to see the happy faces and their beautiful artwork, and can't wait to see all that they accomplish this year!!!
The last week of August at SHS consisted of biology students using microscopes to identify microorganisms and other items in pond water, math problem-solving collaboration, Science Olympiad bridge building, business researching computers, a book tasting assignment, and marching band practice! These students are learning so much, and it looks like they're having a great time doing so!!!
Pastor Jerry and Shelley Beers and the congregation of Steelville First Assembly of God are always so generous to our schools and Backpack Program. Thank you for this large donation!
SHS Art Club had a great first meeting of the year! After hearing proposals from our new club officers about what kinds of projects Art Club will do this year, we are all excited! Students are eager to bring more art to our school and community. They've set goals to paint murals, work with younger students to share skills, fundraise, collaborate with the Steelville Arts Council, and to build a community that feels like family. Art Club will be doing face painting next week at Harvest Festival's Sidewalk Sales. We hope to see everyone there!
