As part of our Red Ribbon Week participation, local resident, Carey Portell, came and spoke to our middle and high school students. Her story about her life-altering wreck with a drunk driver was emotional and moving, and we are grateful that she shared this experience with our students!
On Tuesday, this Teen Teach group of 8th graders taught Ms. Hammonds' 5th grade class the dangers of vaping and how to be more resilient and cope in healthy ways!

Our SES PreK classes learned all about fire safety and prevention from our Steelville firefighters! The littlest Cardinals always enjoy when the big, red fire engine and the firefighters come to visit!
These SES 4th Graders had so much fun painting a landscape and making paper mache pumpkins at weeks 1 and 2 of art camp! We love seeing their creativity!
Congratulations to Mr. Nicks and Mrs. Beel and SHS band and poms for a wonderful performance at Mizzou's Homecoming Parade and Band Competition! Steelville earned 1st in Class, Outstanding Drum Major, and Outstanding Auxiliary! We are so proud of these amazing students!

As part of Yearbook Spirit Week, Yearbook asked SHS first hour teachers to spread some positivity by writing encouraging notes to stick on their students' lockers! We love to see it!
The Child Development 1 class has been learning about heredity and computing Punnett squares to determine the probability of certain traits. Recently, they took part in a Cookie Genetics activity in which they determined their genotypes and phenotypes and created their cookie with those traits!🍪 Yum!

If you are having a picture taken as a RETAKE, please make sure your student returns their package in its entirety, including the package insert sheet, to the photographer on retake day.

SHS artists just finished up their first big project of the school year, and we are so pleased with the high volume of outstanding work that came as a result! For this project, students created work using line as their primary element of art, and emphasis as their primary principle of design. Students have three opportunities to have their work on display following the completion of each project throughout the year. Students may have their work posted on the art bulletin board, on display in the library, and for the first time, their work may also be chosen to be matted, framed, and on display at the central office.
This Cardinal student and Mookie are celebrating a great week at SMS!!! Have a great weekend!
We are so excited that the main hallway in the central office has been converted into a gallery walkway for our student artists! SHS artists were challenged to create line-based illustrations with a strong sense of emphasis. The artworks chosen for this display are truly exemplary, and can best be appreciated in person!
